Simon Denny

Simon Denny was born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1982. He holds a BFA from Auckland University (2004) and an MFA (2009) from the Frankfurt Städelschule, and has taken part in four residencies split between Western Europe and Australia (2007–12). He uses tech-centric sculptures to convey his critical and creative responses to the contested space of the media-sphere. He attracted international attention and received outstanding criticism for his works New Management (2014), Portikus, Frankfurt, The Innovator’s Dilemma (2015), MoMA, PS1, New York, and his show Secret Power (2015) in the New Zealand Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale.
Simon Denny observes the entertainment industry’s various media, its aesthetics, and the inflationary information economy underlying it. He uses its images and objects for his sculptural and installations. Further solo exhibitions among others in the Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, at Westfälischer Kunstverein, Münster, at Petzel Gallery, New York, and at Neuen Aachener Kunstverein, Aachen. Between November 2015 and February 2016, he exhibited his work, Products for Organising, at the Serpentine Galleries, London.
