CONVOCO! Lecture 03/2013: A Strategy for Free Speech in an Interconnected World

On March 5, 2013 Convoco held its first lecture of the year in London.
Professor Timothy Garton Ash of Oxford University spoke on “A strategy for free speech in an interconnected world.” The evening started off with an introduction by Dr. Corinne Flick who examined the concept of strategy and outlined to what extent freedom of speech is in danger. Garton Ash presented his “freespeechdebateproject”, in which he and his team at Oxford University drafted 10 principles on the topic of free speech. In his lecture he further analyzed the challenges that the technology and information revolution as well as geopolitical changes pose to the basic right of free speech in our world.
