Biography
Thomas Herwig

Thomas W. Herwig has been Chairman of the Advisory Board of Röhlig Logistics GmbH & Co. KG in Bremen since 2015.

He was born in Kassel in 1950 and trained in Hamburg, Munich, Montréal and Paris before joining the 1852 founded Röhlig family business in 1982. From 1985 to 2015, he was the fifth-generation Managing Partner and Chairman of the Management Board. In addition to the internationalisation of the sea and air freight business, Herwig focused on consolidating the heterogeneous group of shareholders. In 1994, he succeeded in buying back fifty percent of the limited partnership shares from the French Bolloré Group, thus turning Röhlig back into a wholly family-owned business. Today, Röhlig is a global logistics company with over 2,500 employees in 32 countries, generating over sixty per cent of its turnover outside of Europe. Herwig was Chairman of the Bremen Freight Forwarders Association from 2003 to 2001 and Vice President of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce from 2004 to 2010.
