Prof. Ingolf Pernice

Ingolf Pernice studied law in Marburg and Geneva, European studies in Bruges, and economics in Freiburg. He took his doctorate in fundamental rights in the EEC at the University of Augsburg. From 1980 to 1983 he was an administrator at the European Commission at the DG Competition and from 1983 to 1992 member of the Legal Service. He received his postdoctoral qualification at Bayreuth University in 1987, on equity in public law. Co-founder and co-editor of the European Journal of Business Law. From 1993 to 1996 Professor for Public, European, and International Law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt. In 1996 Professor at the Humboldt-Universität, Berlin. Appointed by the European Commission member of the European Forum for Environment and Sustainable Development. Founder of the Walter Hallstein-Institute for European Constitutional Law of the Humboldt-Universität and Founder of the European Constitutional Law Network. He organizes the lecture series forum constitutionis europeae (FCE) and the Humboldt Lectures on Europe (HRE). From 1998 to 2004 Dean of International Relations at the Humboldt-Universität Law Faculty; and from 2006 to 2008 Dean of the Law Faculty. Since 1999 Editor of Schriftenreihe Europäisches Verfassungsrecht and member of the advisory board of the Columbia Journal of European Law. Member of the boards and advisory boards of many law journals. Doctorate honoris causa from the New Bulgarian University, Sofia, in 2006. In 2008 the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He represented the German Parliament defending the Treaty of Lisbon in the proceedings of the German Federal Constitutional Court in 2008/09. His special research areas are European constitutional law, European environmental law, and comparative and global constitutionalism.
