Prof. Dr Pirmin Stekeler-Weithofer

Pirmin Stekeler-Weithofer studied German, theoretical linguistics, philosophy (MA 1975), and mathematics (Diplom 1977) in Konstanz, Berlin, Prague, and Berkeley. He received his doctorate in 1984, and his postdoctoral qualification in 1987. Since 1992 he has been Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Leipzig. He has taught and researched widely abroad in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil(1988), Pittsburgh, PA (1990–92, 2006), Swansea, Great Britain (1997/98), and held the Theodor Heuss Chair in New York (2002). Since 1994 he has been Director of the Humanities Center, and since 2009 Director of the Center for Higher Studies at the University of Leipzig. Since 1998 he has been a member and since 2008 President of the Saxonian Academy of Sciences in Leipzig. He is Vice-President of the International Hegel Association and the International Ludwig Wittgenstein Society. Since 2005 he has been a member of the Selection Committee for Research Grants at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
