Prof. Dr Birke Häcker

Prof. Dr Birke Häcker holds the statutory Chair in Comparative Law at the University of Oxford. Since her appointment in 2016, she has been a Professorial Fellow at Brasenose College and in 2018 became the Director of Oxford’s Institute of European and Comparative Law. Prior to taking up her position, she was, inter alia, a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance in Munich. As an undergraduate, she obtained a dual legal education, reading jurisprudence at Oxford as well as German law at the Universities of Tübingen and Bonn. Her Oxford D.Phil. was on comparative private law. She publishes on a broad range of topics in English and German private law, comparative law, and legal history.
