Dr Stefan Oschmann has recently assumed the Chair of the Board and is Independent Director at UCB as well as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of AiCuris Anti-Infective Cures AG. Formerly he has been Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Merck from 2016 until May 2021. Prior to that, he served as Vice-Chairman and Deputy CEO, with responsibility for group strategy, among other things. He joined Merck in 2011 as a member of the Executive Board and was responsible for the health-care business sector until the end of 2014. He drove the transformation of biopharma business and played an instrumental role in the group-wide transformation and growth program “Fit for 2018.” Before joining Merck, Stefan Oschmann worked for the US pharmaceutical company MSD. He started his career at an agency of the United Nations, and also worked for the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI). He holds a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich.
