Prof. David Runciman

David Runciman is Professor of Politics at Cambridge University and the author of many books, including most recently How Democracy Ends (2018), Where Power Stops (2019) and Confronting Leviathan (2021).  His new book, The Handover: How We Gave Control of Our Lives to Corporations, States and Artificial Intelligence, will be published in August this year. He was the host of the weekly Talking Politics podcast from 2016-22 and he writes regularly about politics for the London Review of Books, where he is a Contributing Editor.

Prof. Paul Nolte

Paul Nolte is Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at Freie Universität Berlin, specializing in modern Germany, transatlantic history, and the history and theory of democracy. He is the author of “Was ist Demokratie? Geschichte und Gegenwart“ (published in 2012 with C.H. Beck, in German), and numerous other books and articles. He has been commenting political and social affairs in the media for more than two decades. He also is chief and managing editor of “Geschichte und Gesellschaft”, a major peer-reviewed journal with an emphasis in social and cultural history.
