In our new CONVOCO! Podcast Corinne M. Flick speaks with Kenny Schachter, the artist, writer, and curator, about:
The State of Crypto: Beyond Scams and Scandals
Here’s a snippet of what he said:
Computers are not corrupt, people are. People exploit systems that facilitate bad behavior.
The crypto world is particularly prone to criminality and scams because it is completely unregulated. It’s a new, rapidly unfolding technology, and it takes time for the authorities to understand and appreciate it.
The volatility in the crypto market is unprecedented. If the current downturn is a fundamental reassessment of the values and viability of the entire market, it is good to wash out some of the excessive speculation.
Some people have claimed that NFTs are over but that’s absolutely a misconception. The technology is fundamentally right and makes perfect logical sense. This is just a glitch.
Digital art never had the acceptance of paintings and sculptures because there wasn´t a ready systematisation or mechanism to collect digital art with certainty of authenticity.
NFTs cannot be ignored by museums – every contemporary art museum in the world is compelled to get involved … My expectation is that the NFT market for fine art will grow exponentially.
