The 20th Convoco Forum 2024 How Can We Create a Free, Just, and Sustainable World gathered guests from business, academia, politics, and culture on Saturday 27. July at Salzburg Congress.
The opening speech on the occasion of Convoco’s 20th anniversary was given by its founder and chair Corinne M. Flick.
Gernot Wagner (Professor at Columbia Business School) gave the first keynote titled “The Global Climate Race and a European Green Growth Mindset.”
In the first panel of the day, moderated by Timo Meynhardt from the HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, Clemens Fuest (President of the ifo Institute), Monika Schnitzer (Chair of the German Council of Economic Experts), Philipp Pattberg (Professor of Transnational Environmental Governance and Policy) and MEP Sven Simon addressed the question “Will Climate Protection and Adaptation Succeed?”
Then, Neurobiologist Martin Korte gave his lecture “Are brains build to cope with climate change?”
After the break, the German Ambassador to Italy and San Marino Hans-Dieter Lucas opened the second part of the Forum with his speech. He spoke on the topic of “Peace and Security in the Age of Global Strategic Competition – Challenges for Europe.”
On the following panel, Federal Constitutional Court judge Christine Langenfeld, Gabriel Felbermayr (President of the WIFO Institute) and political scientist Claudia Wiesner discussed the topic of “International Climate policy as a Policy for Peace and Security” with moderator Moritz Schularick (ifw Kiel).
The third Forum discussion on the topic of “Can We Achieve a Free, Just, and Sustainable Digital Future Through Regulation” was introduced by the lawyer Birke Häcker. The discussion between Gerhard Wagner (Humboldt University), Mathias Risse (Harvard Kennedy School) and Herbert Reitsamer (University Hospital Salzburg) was moderated by Marietta Auer, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory.
The Convoco Forum 2024 concluded with the Art Conversation. Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries London, spoke with the garden architect Piet Oudolf and the artist Tino Sehgal.
